Web Design & Front-end Development
Job titles for web professionals can be one of the most debatable topics on the web. What constitutes a designer, and where does the line blur between designer and developer? We like to keep it simple here at JBird - anything that has to do with the visual and interactive part of your website, we do. From the layout and coding of the HTML to the responsive features that enhance the interaction with your site, JBird Design uses principles of design and our experience to craft a functional and user-friendly website to help grow your business.
We also believe in progressive enhancement and graceful degradation. Your website should not punish visitors for not having the latest browser (though we also believe that you SHOULD upgrade to a modern browser), but it should also reward those who do. All the flourishes and design elements that provide a rich interaction with your site will be enjoyed by those using modern browsers, but visitors using Internet Explorer 7, for example, will still be able to access and interact with your content.
What design DOESN'T include: programming your blog, setting up your server, creating an Administrator section, and a lot more of the functionality that comes with most modern websites. Fortunately, we do that too.
CMS Development and Deployment
Around 3000BC, the Sumerians invented the wheel. When their civilization fell into decline and disarray, the Babylonian culture that succeeded them did not seek to reinvent it. We believe in the same principle - that being "Don't reinvent the wheel". That's why we use proven open-source technology to run the back-end of your websites.
Drupal - Drupal is a super-charged Content Management System, or CMS, that we use for websites that require heavy lifting. With an expansive, extremely helpful community and a wide array of modules for almost any function, Drupal is a powerful tool that can be harnessed for almost any task.
Wordpress - Wordpress originally started off as a basic blogging platform, but over the past few years it has been transformed into a full-fledged CMS that is flexible, extensible, and most importantly, has a small learning curve. We use Wordpress for websites that have big plans for dynamic content, such as news sites, video portals, or blogs.
While the principles of design apply to both web and print projects, the execution of those principles can be different. We know how to keep your brand consistent across all pieces of your marketing material, starting with your website and continuing through your business cards, direct mail pieces, postcards, and brochures. We can work with local printers to get the best quality and price for your needs, or we can prep the project so you can take it to the printer of your choice.
